Ross's career in hair began in London in the 1970s, and more than 50 years later he's still at the chair, still cutting, and still setting the creative direction for The Establishment. That career has been shaped as much by design, art, fashion and music as by hairdressing itself - you can see it in the way he reads a client's whole look, not just their hair. In 2013, he co-founded The Establishment with Claire, bringing decades of hands-on London experience to Farnham's Downing Street.
He specialises in seamless texture - styles built to work whether they're worn straight or with movement, so a cut doesn't fall apart the day after it leaves the salon. His expertise is all precision cutting, no matter the texture - a steady hand refined over 50 years behind the chair. Ross has been nominated Southern Hairdresser of the Year twice, nominated UK Art Team of the Year once, and was a L'Oréal Colour Trophy finalist for the South - recognition built on decades of consistent, considered work rather than a single lucky year.
Non-conformist, retro Mod
Ross's own style is unmistakably his - non-conformist, retro Mod, and unapologetically Italian. Ask him about his two French Bulldogs, Coco and Louie, and he'll tell you - with a grin - that they're really "Italian Bulldogs," because they know exactly when it's pasta day and start a kitchen vigil at 4pm sharp. (Coco and Louie are the salon's much-loved mascots rather than members of the team, but they turn up in conversation more often than you'd expect.)
That same personality shows up in the chair. Ross's founding philosophy is simple: the best haircuts happen when stylist and client see the same vision before a single cut is made.
